Families Seeking an African-American Child

Bonnie - Family #1107

My name is Bonnie and I hope adopt! I’m a birthmother myself- 20 years ago I made an adoption plan for my son because I wasn’t ready to be a mother. Now, I’m prepared in every way. I’ve been a nanny, a babysitter, and a teacher and I love to be around kids. I long to be the mommy!

I’ve taught toddlers through college students. Now, I teach 7th grade and college. I plan to stay home for as long as possible, then use a babysitter near my school so I can visit during free periods- and of course, being a teacher means I’ll have the same schedule as my child!

I have a 3 bedroom home with lots of kids in the neighborhood. I am Protestant and I belong to a small congregation of diverse types of families. I help with Vacation Bible School and the Christmas pageant, and the annual Strawberry Social. I also help with a community garden- we keep half the vegetables we grow while the other half goes to feed the homeless.

I enjoy quilting, knitting, cooking, baking, playing guitar and violin, watching baseball, walking in the park and on the boardwalk, practicing yoga, and spending time with friends.

As a birthmother, I was so lucky to find an adoptive family I just “knew” was meant to have my son, and I have had peace with my choice. I hope that will make me sensitive to my adopted child’s birthmother’s needs, for whatever level of contact that means at any point in the future. I truly wish the same peace for you in your decision.
